Stadtmuseum Participation Initiative
As part of the “Dream City” project, the City Museum is looking for people from Oldenburg who would like to dream about their city in the future. Would you like to be part of the “Dream City”? Then read below to find out how you can get involved and become part of the next new Stadtmuseum.
Dream City
The first round took place in the spring of 2024. The museum team engaged with a diverse group of Oldenburg residents to discuss the following questions: What will Oldenburg need in the future regarding housing, leisure, mobility, work, and beyond? The discussion was conducted using the World Café method. Each question had its own space so that people could discuss and then capture their ideas on a large sheet of paper using words and drawings.
The first round was accompanied by Hamburg-based illustrator Angela Gerlach, who developed a vision of the future based on the collected themes and ideas. She incorporated the wishes of Oldenburg’s citizens into a “big picture,” which is on display in the permanent exhibition. This 2024 result will later be added to the Medienstation’s digital archive. Over time, this will create an archive of the “Dreamed City.”

How can you get involved?
In 2031, we’d like to exchange ideas with you and many other interested participants. The results will once again be illustrated in the form of a large hidden-object picture and exhibited at the museum.
Would you like to join others in imagining what our city might look like in 10, 20, or 30 years? Then send us an email with the subject line “Dream City” to mitmachen-im-smo@stadt-oldenburg.de and sign up for the next round.
As soon as the workshops are scheduled, we’ll get in touch with you and look forward to dreaming about Oldenburg with you.
