Landscape Impressions
Do you recognize these kinds of landscape scenes? The rich green of the trees in the forest has a calming effect. The summer sun makes the grain shimmer golden, and the evening glow colors the sky.
Surely you can think of even more moments like these. These landscape scenes also fascinated Richard tom Dieck. More than 100 years ago, he wandered through town and country with his field easel, capturing these scenes on paper and canvas.
We are still looking for more landscape impressions for a section of the city history exhibition. Would you like your landscape photo to be part of the digital collage?

Who was Richard tom Dieck?
Richard tom Dieck (1862–1943) was a theater painter, teacher, and director of the drawing school at the Arts and Crafts Association, as well as a curator at the Grand Ducal Picture Gallery. He shaped the art scene in Oldenburg from the turn of the century until World War II. His own artistic work, however, remained private. During his lifetime, he never exhibited his paintings nor sold any of his works. When working outdoors, he used a field easel to paint directly in nature. He often explored the countryside on foot, by bicycle, or by train. After his death, his estate was bequeathed to the City of Oldenburg, and with it, many of his personal documents and over 4,000 works were transferred to the City Museum.
On the homepage of our online collection, you can discover collections curated by theme. You can now find such a collection dedicated to Richard tom Dieck. We are constantly expanding these so-called highlights. You can find the online collection here »
